I have been a keen embroiderer all my life, all the pictures in Lochearn House have been made by me, and the attic still holds quite a few because, as, we downsized over the years, we ran out of walls!!!! I have done embroidery, tapestry, cross-stitch and appliqué pictures as well as countless other projects.
I became very interested in Patchwork and while surfing the net came across a machine, which changed my life. One of the reasons we moved to Lochearn House was for the double garage, which we converted to a Studio. I bought a Gammill Quilting Long Arm (Longarm) System and now quilt for other patch workers who make the patchwork tops, send them to me, I put on the backing, add the wadding, quilt them, and send them back. A couple of years ago I started entering competitions and have done very well. I won a 1st and 2nd at the Scottish Quilt Championship for long arming (longarming) the first year. This year I received a 3rd for longarming at Birmingham Festival of Quilts, the biggest quilt show in Europe. I then received a 1st and a Judge’s Choice from Lillian Hedley at Harrogate, the Great Northern Quilt Show, and another 1st and 2nd at the Scottish Quilt Championship. I was thrilled. I have also appeared in quite a few magazines and articles. During the winter months I give talks and teach long arm (longarm) quilting, IQ and basic patchwork. A lot of my customers stay for the 3-day special break of Dinner, Bed and Breakfast, book in their quilt and have it quilted while they are here. I also do a monthly ‘pick up, drop off’ service at Purely Patchwork in Linlithgow. |
